Sara: Hello, doctor! I’m back to the clinic after five days, just as you requested from me. I can guess that during this time you’ve been able to check the results of my tests and reach conclusions of whatever it is that is happening to me .
Tim: It has been that way, in fact. I’ve been able to do a good analysis of all the results of your exams. We had to delve deep to understand what was going on, but we have found a cause.
Sara: Tell me, then. The truth is that I have been very worried, and this mystery hasn’t helped me with my nervous issues . I have barely been able to concentrate lately because of it.
Tim: With great joy and happiness , I must confirm that you are pregnant , Sara. Congratulations!
Sara: Wait, how?! That’s impossible.
Tim: No, no it isn’t. You have a two-week pregnancy , and that is why you’ve been suffering from so many stomach problems and vomiting . It’s also easier to understand the cause behind the weight gains , and why you’ve had headaches .
Sara: I don’t think that it can be the case. I haven’t had a stable partner for a while, I’ve used protection , and also, doctor, I’m sterile! I really think you’re mistaken , no offense. We’re talking about something biologically impossible here.
Tim: Sara, it isn’t impossible. It is real, and it is happening right now. Believe me when I say that you’re pregnant, and that you’re going to be a mother . I understand that previous tests demonstrated a level of sterility , but something may have changed in your body since then. You’ve never undergone any fertility treatment , right?
Sara: Never . In truth, I never thought I’d have a kid. This… I don’t know how to react! I mean, I’m happy, but at the same time it’s a shock that doesn’t even let me think!
Tim: That’s how you should be feeling. You never thought you’d have a baby, but it will be that way if you wish it. You do want to have it, right?
Sara: Yes, definitely! I’m going to have it and love it a lot. I’m going to take care of my baby and give it everything it needs.
Tim: Excellent outlook. Do you know who the dad is? Do you think you can make contact with him?
Sara: Yes, although he’s just a guy I was going out with for barely a month. I don’t know how he’ll take it. What if he doesn’t want to accept the baby? How will I manage on my own with a boy or girl? I can’t imagine myself as a single mother .
Tim: Calm down, Sara. Step by step. The law protects you and your baby, and compels him to support you financially . Whether he decides to be a part of your life again or not depends entirely on him, but you can’t count on that. Now it’s about your baby, no matter what happens next.
Sara: The thing is that my parents are the ones supporting me, and I don’t have a job.
